NICK MOSBY STATEMENT ON MD SENATE OVERRIDING GOV. HOGAN’S VETO RESTORING THE RIGHT FOR FELONS TO VOTE
I applaud the Maryland Senate for overriding Gov. Larry Hogan’s vetoes of bills that restore the right to vote to felons still on parole and probation. As a society, we should never discourage our citizens from voting. People who have paid their debt to society deserve the opportunity to participate in civic engagement. In 2014, I sponsored “Ban the Box” legislation which prohibits certain employers from asking job applicants about their criminal past before making a conditional job offer. We have to Connect the Dots to address our toughest challenges and allowing reformed offenders the opportunity to participate in all aspects of society is a necessary step we must take.
